By implementing our advanced HydroChill® cooling technology, we have gone up against the summer heat in a smart and straightforward way. A simple addition to the turf’s filling provides an average cooling range of 30-50 degrees and works on its own when hydrated by irrigation, rainfall, and dew.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
EVAPORATIVE COOLING TECHNOLOGY
Perspiration is an ordinary process of thermoregulation called evaporative cooling. Evaporation of moisture from the skin’s surface has a cooling effect. Similarly, HydroChill® has shown to cool artificial putting surfaces by working on the same scientific method. As the turf surface is heated by solar radiation, water stored in the HydroChill® turf is let go. Evaporating water gets rid of heat, leaving a cooler, more comfortable green for the players.
- HydroChill® uses moisture to create a cooling effect. Rainfall, dew, and irrigation can help keep your lawn cool for days, depending on local weather conditions.
- HydroChill® can be integrated into most of Southwest Greens' infilled lawn systems.

- HydroChill® is UV-resistant and should be re-treated every two years for maximum efficiency.
WHEN IS IT MOST EFFECTIVE?
Ambient temperature outside does not necessarily dictate surface temperature. The solar radiation time period, the angle of the sun, cloud cover, wind, and other elements all add to the temperature of the surface.
HydroChill® gives you maximum benefit when the sun is closer to the Earth, as demonstrated in the solar radiation calendar. Throughout the summer in Vancouver, the sun sits high in the sky, causing surfaces to absorb more heat, resulting in warmer temperatures. The Earth’s rotation is likewise responsible for hourly variations in the sun’s light thus making HydroChill® most efficient during the hotter hours of a clear day when it’s most necessary.
